This easy trick will stop your kids from interrupting you. Every parent should know this!

Children are what make us parents. They are the greatest gift life can provide us. Children make our lives joyful, entertaining, and worth living.

But every now and then there are moments where our children can really get on our nerves. They come to us at the most inopportune times. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to this problem.

It’s actually really easy to teach your children not to interrupt you, and it all starts with your hands.

Kate, a Mom blogger at An Everyday Story, loves to share parenting tips she has learned along her journey as a mother of two. In a recent blog post, she says she was visiting a friend when her friend’s son suddenly interrupted her. Rather than get upset, her friend immediately did a simple gesture and the child paused.

“Instead of interrupting though, he simply placed his hand on her wrist and waited. My friend placed her hand over his to acknowledge him and we continued chatting.”

Simply placing your hand over your child’s hand will stop them from interrupting you.

Kate’s friend continued the conversation without any issues. Her son patiently waited for her mother to finish speaking.

“After she had finished what she was saying, she turned to him. I was in awe! So simple. So gentle. So respectful of both the child and the adult. Her son only needed to wait a few seconds for my friend to finish her sentence. Then she gave him her complete attention.”

Body language, especially touch, is a powerful communication tool. The act of holding your child’s hand will show that you acknowledge that they have something to say. It shows that they have your attention, but you need to finish up what you are doing before you can attend to their request.

Kate, being the life hacker that she is, took this tip home and tried it on both of her children. She explained to her kids what it means when she held their wrists and hands. The result?

“It took some practice and a few light taps on our own wrists as gentle reminders but I am so happy to report that the interrupting has all but stopped!!”

With time, her children were catching on!
