After surveillance footage caught her in the act, the 23-year-old was identified as Yekaterina M., a Russian medical student.
Although her motive for the kidnapping is unclear, Yekaterina confessed to the incident when she got home.
The kidnapped infant was named Marina. She was born prematurely and needed extra care in the hospital. The kidnapping put the infant’s life at risk…
While the student took the baby outside in the shopping bag, the infant’s 23-year-old mother had already been discharged and was recovering at home while she put her trust in the hospital to care for her baby.
Allegedly, the hospital contacted police immediately after noticing Marina missing.
They had assumed a family member had taken the baby but CCTV footage proved it was one of their own medical staff.
While investigating, Yekaterina’s family called the hospital to tell them what she had done.
During the kidnapping, the medical student even posted a photo of her and the baby on social media with the caption: “Everything will be cool!”
Investigators aren’t sure the medical student is psychologically fit for trail.
