Dusty the kangaroo is convinced he is a dog and loves life on the farm at Wittenoom Hills, near Esperance in Western Australia

Dusty the kangaroo, who is two years old, is certain he is a dog

Ashley Stewart and his family’s Western Australian farm, Wittenoom Hills, 60 kilometers northeast of Esperance.

After the joey’s mother was killed in a car accident, Mr. Stewart came to its aid.

We fed him even though we weren’t sure he would make it, and of course he took off from there,” he remarked.

“He resides on the patio in back. He used to steal a dog bed from the other dogs, so we had to go buy a third one for him to sleep in.”

According to Mr. Stewart, their kangaroo was adored by their border collie, Rosie, and golden retriever, Lilly.

“He thinks Lilly is his mum, he’s always grooming her, they’re always together and if Lilly goes out of the yard he pines for her and sort of hops up and down the fence until he’s let out to go with her.”

According to Mr. Stewart, Dusty the kangaroo had a dog-style collar on

“When he was younger, we would take him outside during the day and then bring him inside at night. We were unable to locate him because they simply sit there and don’t make any noise, so I had to walk outside at night with a flashlight.

“So I got a collar and I put some reflective tape on it so it would shine out in the torch light and I could find him.”
