U.S. cops tend to get lots of bad rap. Many citizens are quick to complain about the way they get their jobs done, while some believe they are too quick to use violence.
Sure, it’s vital to ensure everybody has the right to complain when anyone—whatever job they have—isn’t playing their proper role, but it’s just as critical to keep in mind that cops put their lives on the line each day to keep us safe.
That’s not all, lots of cops often carry out pretty impressive feats, and one of them is shown in this amazing story.
It’s been a long time since WW2 ended, but there are still veterans around, and at 92, Louis Hicks is a survivor.
All his long life, Louis has tried hard to take good action, including when Europe asked the US to help defend themselves against the Nazis.
Recently, Louis went into his workshop at the back of his home to discover some of his tools were gone. He called the cops to tell them, hoping they’d be able to apprehend whoever was responsible.
His only hope was having his tools returned, but on arriving at Louis’ house, Officer Chasity Salazar insisted that she have a look inside his home.
Instantly, Louis knew he wouldn’t be able to hide what was happening in the kitchen. Chasity had a poke around, spotted something, and left right away. The officer vowed not to bother Louis again.
In no way was Louis prepared for Officer Chasity to come back after her little investigative visit, and he wasn’t to know she’d bring something that would make his day-to-day much easier.
Even though he’d bravely helped our country in WW2, Louis found it hard to ask others for help. Luckily, Chasity noticed the telltale signs that he could use a helping hand, so was set on doing something for Louis.
Here’s what she noticed: Louis had been using his cooker to warm up his house, turning on each and every ring just to get some heat. Chasity asked her colleagues to assist, and with some donations, was able to buy Louis a proper heater.
The veteran became misty-eyed when the officer came back with the heater. He struggled to say his thanks:
“I’ve never had no one to do nothing for me. After my mother passed away and left me to take care of my two sisters … nobody never did nothing to help me. You hate to ask anybody ’cause sometimes they’ll frown on you, and I’m a true veteran. I won’t ask. I won’t ask,” Louis said to KVUE.
He told that after his previous heater had scorched through his floor, he had to look elsewhere for warmth. As he was on a small income, Louis had simply used the cooker, with no alternative.
Chasity, in the meantime, was pleased to have been of help. But she was also incredibly happy for having had the chance to give her respects to a veteran who’d served the U.S. proudly.
The entire community has come around Louis to support him, and they hope to continue making his everyday life as simple as it can be.
“It means everything. The things I’ve been trying to do since the ’40s…I’ve been asking for help. And now, it just came in. God is good,” Louis said.
Austin police haven’t stopped at giving Louis a heater, but have listed everything he could possibly need, such as pants, clothes, and underwear.
Seems like this brave veteran will at least be getting what he’s earned from living a good life.
It’s clear that something genuinely amazing has happened when a world war veteran sheds tears of joy!
