Every parent knows it isn’t easy to bring up a child. Granted, it has it’s rewards, and comes with an unbeatable sense of accomplishment. But you’re lying if you try and say it’s easy.
Even Moms and Dads who never seem to tire are going to feel it when they have a newborn. Well, baby’s take all your time, they aren’t just one part of a daily routine.
Melody Blackwell, mother of newborn Nora-Jo, was catching a peaceful moment in her desk chair while holding her baby. Then, Melody’s boss entered, catching the two of them unawares.
As it stands, Melody’s lucky enough that she’s allowed to bring Nora-Jo into the office. When her boss commented a little publicly about newborns at work, however, Melody had zero idea that she’d soon be topping headlines.
Just to be clear, this is in no way criticism of Ms Blackwell’s boss. In fact, Melody’s boss took a photo of Nora-Jo in Melody’s arms in the office, and decided that it was impossible not to post such a cute snap online.
Said photo eventually worked it’s way around the Maryland Farms Chiropractic Facebook, where it really started taking off.
The comment said: “Workin’ mamas. She makes it look easy. It helps that Baby Nora-Jo is so sweet and content just being with and near her mama. Would y’all mind sharing this? We need more small and large businesses to see this is doable and should be allowed more often! The newborn months are so short. #WorkinMamas post a pic of you and your little ones while you work!”
Melody had permission to do work at home, nonetheless she sometimes found that a trip to the office was needed to get certain tasks done. Her boss, however, lets her have a break whenever she or Nora-Jo need one.
In a chat with Love What Matters, Melody said: “I know not every office and work environment is conducive for children and babies, but I think more places can be more flexible than they are currently.
“I think many families find it almost makes more financial sense for one parent to stay home, rather than go to work just to have most or all of their checks pay for day care.”
We love Melody’s tale, and think it’s an ideal example of the ways that a great work environment (and support) can make a big difference. It’s heartwarming to see the two doing so well.
