“Beauty Bias’ might affect your career and can cost you

In this highly competitive world, being smart and working hard is not enough. You might come across many people that give you the notion that it’s not the appearance or the looks or the physique that matters, if you are talented and hard working then you can prosper in your career. But in reality, that is not the case. In this technology, prone and glamorous era looks matters a lot that is the reality. According to the latest research, it has been demonstrated that attractive persons are more likely to land everything from the start up pitches to job interviews. Also, the corporate world considers good looking people as more trustworthy. This requirement of good looks for a good career gives rise to Beauty Bias. The Yale study conducted by a U.S. scientist named Daniel Hamermesh revealed that attractive men could earn 9 percent more than their average-looking mates while attractive women can earn 13 percent more than their average-looking counterparts. It is understood that we cannot always change our looks. But we can prepare ourselves in a better way so that we can overcome this beauty bias. Hamermesh said that there is very little you can do to make yourself better looking, but you can present yourself better. Beauty Bias can cost you your career, so you need to overcome this bias. Here are the five things that might help you to conquer the beauty bias devil.

1. Take Care of your self

In this fast-paced world, people forget to care for their mind and body. This ignorance can affect their overall appearance. Weight plays a major role in shaping your career. Researchers say that for American men, weight gain is actually linked to a boost in salary. A skinny is expected to earn less than a guy having a good weight and physique. Similarly, for women, the more is the weight, the less is their income. So, it is important that you start taking a healthy diet and do exercise regularly. Give your body ample sleep and do meditation to soothe your mind and soul.

2.You should put forward your best version in front of others

Being in your best version means you need to look good and positive in all departments. That means although you look average, still, you should compensate it with the overall appearance. You need to dress up in a decent manner according to your industry and work environment. The more you focus on grooming, the more benefit you get. In a working environment, what matters is not your innate attractiveness but rather how you present yourself in front of others. You need to project that you care about yourself and your appearance. This ends appositive vibe across your industry.

3. Know your limits and do not overdo anything

You need to be aware of your job profile and the requirements. Gorgeous people cannot always win. Yes, looks matters but there are certain jobs in which looks are not relevant to the positions, or the job might require more masculinity. So, you need to be careful about your appearance while going for an interview or working in an industry. You should first take a note about what most successful persons wear or prefer and groom and dress accordingly. You need to make your own identity and create appositive vibes through your appearance.

4. You need to trust your strengths and move forward with confidence

According to a survey, height can also play a major role increasing your income. But you cannot change your height. What you can do is to focus on the things that you are good at. Try to polish your skills. Try to attract people towards your strengths.

5. Examine your bias

If you look attractive but do not have the requisite skills to get the job that is not going to help. Although attractiveness plays a major role when it comes to negotiating mergers and acquisitions still you need to have the knowledge and the exact skill sets to finish the job.

If you look average, then do not get disheartened. Rise up and show the world your inner beauty and bring the best of yourself in front of the world. Trust your skills and move ahead in your career. Maintaining a healthy and energetic outlook can go a long way toward fostering a positive perception of yourself in the eyes of others and thus helping you in overcoming beauty bias.
