Cockroaches, ants, and fleas can wreak havoc on your house. But what if there was one non-toxic method to rid them all from your home, instead of stocking and spraying so many different chemicals around the house. Borax can get rid of these disgusting insects from your home without needing to spray harsh chemicals.
The way it works is that the cockroaches, ants, and fleas ingest the borax and the borax destroys the lining of their stomach and disrupts digestion. Here’s how you can use borax in your home to get rid of these unwanted home guests:
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are known as hardy creatures, however they are no match for borax. To kill cockroaches, boil six eggs and remove the whites. Mash up the yolks and add 2.5 ounces of borax to the mix. Then add half a cup to a full cup of white sugar or enough sugar until it is no longer crumbly.
Your mixture should have a dough-like consistency. Leave little balls of the dough around your home for the cockroaches to eat.
Ants
Given that worker ants eat liquids and the queen and her babies eat solids, you have to mix up 2 solutions to end your ant invasion.
Sold Ant Bait: combine one part borax and 3 parts powdered sugar. Sprinkle this mix onto flat surfaces for the worker ants to take to the queen.
Liquid Bait: combine ¼ cup of borax and ¾ cup of honey or maple syrup. Drop globs of this onto an ant trail or anywhere you see ants coming in.
Fleas
Borax has instant and long-lasting results on fleas. One treatment can continue to kill fleas and their eggs for up to a year. Vacuum your home well, including under the furniture given that fleas like to hide out in dark areas. You’ll also want to dust and get up as much dirt as you can.
Sprinkle some borax on your carpet, the creases in your furniture, closet, places your pet hangs out, and anywhere else you believe fleas might be hiding in your home. Brush it into your carpet with a little hand broom. Vacuum up anywhere you still find visible borax. Let the borax sit for 36 hours and then vacuum it up to get rid of the dead fleas.
